Thanksgiving is almost here and many will be driving short and long distances to visit relatives and friends. Most will be gassing up their cars for that visit. Have you ever noticed that even within a few blocks, gasoline prices can vary greatly? When your gas gauge gets to the point where you need to fill up do you want to pay the lowest price for gas or the highest price? If you want to pay the highest price or close to it for gas you can skip this. If you however are like the rest of us, and like to save money at the pump then I have a good app for you to download to your phone and use. What will happen in 2017 and beyond to the price of gas is anyone’s guess.
While you cannot control what gas prices will average in your area, you can download the GasBuddy app to your phone and save money when you gas your car up. It can be used whether or not your location is turned on. Just open the app and in the top bar enter your location either by zip code or by city and state and see where the cheapest gas prices are in the selected area. If your location is enabled, the gas prices in your immediate area are shown by gas station and address. You can sort this information by price or by distance from your location.
Once you determine which gas station you will stop at, you can get directions to it on your phone. If your location is enabled, GasBuddy will give you directions as you are driving to your selected station. If not, (you need to type in your location). At this point you should have your location enabled.
I have used it locally and when I am travelling and have found it to be very useful. So you’re wondering how does GasBuddy obtain this information. People like you and me post on GasBuddy the prices they see at the various pumps. You see the latest prices at the pump for each station that is reported. You also see when that latest price was reported. The nice thing is that when you’re looking for gas in an unfamiliar area, you can see how far you are from a gas station. I also can remember a few years ago right after Hurricane Sandy, I was able to see what gas stations were opened near me. A big help.
Just make sure that a passenger in the car is doing the search for you or you have pulled over to the side of the road if you are doing the search.
