The United Airlines passenger being forcibly removed from an airplane put this piece of airline related news mostly under the radar. (No pun intended) How would you feel if the person sitting next to you on your flight was on their phone fighting loudly with their significant other for all to hear? Or engaged in a conference call? Well thanks to the FCC, you won’t have to worry about this at least for the foreseeable future. A proposal was made a few years back to allow cell phone calls during a flight. It appears that the hearing to decide this is not happening. I have not heard or read anything about phone calls on international flights so I am unable to speak to that. But on domestic flights, it won’t happen.
Having heard some personal calls on public transportation, a doctor-patient call in a restaurant, I am glad that I won’t be hearing these or other phone calls on my next flight. I could move to another part of the bus and ask for another table but on an airplane, I am captive to my seat.
So what are your thoughts? Should phone calls via Wi-Fi or otherwise on an airplane be allowed or banned?
