You may have heard that WhatsApp which is owned by Facebook will soon start sharing your personal data with Facebook. This has yet to happen but soon phone numbers, usage and other information derived from your WhatsApp account will soon be shared with Facebook. Facebook will now start to mine your WhatsApp account for data. That is unless you one of the 2 following things:
- If you go into your WhatsApp “Settings” and then into “Account” there is an option at the bottom as shown in the picture below that says, “Share My Account Info” Turn the slider to the left so that this is no longer enabled. (See picture below) Now in order to convince you to share your information, WhatsApp says that your Facebook ads and product experiences will be enhanced. To that I say, “Really?” We have all heard about how Facebook uses your personal information. So my suggestion is to not allow this.
- The other way to not allow your personal information to be shared with Facebook is when you see WhatsApp revised terms of service (TOS) agreement. At the bottom, where you enable WhatsApp to share your account information is a checkbox that says that you are allowing this. Uncheck this box so that you are not allowing this.
